CHAFFEE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE
Salida, Colorado
PRESS RELEASE
May 24, 2018
On Wednesday, May 23, 2018, Special Agent in Charge Jodi Wright of the Colorado Bureau of Investigation contacted Chaffee County Sheriff John Spezze in regards to the Stephen Hall criminal history audit.
You will recall that on Friday, May 18, Sheriff John Spezze became aware that accusations were made on Stephen Hall’s campaign Facebook page alleging that an illegal criminal history had been run on Stephen Hall by fellow officers, possibly employees of the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office and that Sheriff John Spezze could have had knowledge of such and may have participated. This information came to light after information was disclosed that Stephen Hall had been arrested twice for DUI.
Sheriff Spezze immediately contacted CBI and requested that an audit of CCIC be performed to determine if anyone in the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office had requested a criminal history. This audit would include Sheriff John Spezze.
On Wednesday, May 23rd, SAC Jodi Wright confirmed to Sheriff Spezze that the audit of the statewide CCIC system, including Chaffee County, had been performed and the results were negative. She stated that the audit showed that no criminal history had been run on Stephen Hall utilizing CCIC which is maintained by CBI.
