CHAFFEE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE
Salida, Colorado
PRESS RELEASE
June 4, 2018
On Monday, June 4, 2018, the Chaffee County Communications Center received calls of a possible fire in the Mesa Antero subdivision.
Members of the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office, Chaffee Fire and the U.S. Forest Service responded to the area.
A small fire was discovered at the intersection of county roads 261c and 261h which had involved approximately 1/10th of an acre. Numerous residents of the subdivision were working in an attempt to put the fire out.
The fire was completely extinguished by firefighters.
Cause of the fire appears at this time to be lightning which passed through the area on Sunday.
All county residents and visitors are once again reminded that conditions throughout our county are very dry. Everyone is reminded to use extreme caution during all activities. All of Chaffee County, including federal, state and unincorporated lands, remains under Stage 1 Fire Restrictions.
Over the past weekend the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office was busy reminding residents and visitors of the fire restrictions. 1 summons was issued for violation of the county ordinance as it pertains to our county fire restrictions. That infraction involved an unattended campfire.
The Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office will remain vigilant in enforcing fire restrictions. Sheriff John Spezze requested the assistance of CDOT for the use of reader boards on our highways to remind everyone of our dry conditions and current fire restrictions.
