CHAFFEE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE
Salida, Colorado
PRESS RELEASE
June 11, 2018
Effectively immediately and by order of Chaffee County Sheriff John Spezze Chaffee County, which includes all state lands and unincorporated lands, will move to Stage II Fire Restrictions IMMEDIATELY. This does not include federal lands such as the national forest and BLM Lands. Both the City of Salida and the Town of Buena Vista have their own ordinances that pertain to fire restrictions and they should be consulted as to their restrictions. At the time of this press release our partners in the U.S. Forest Service and BLM are still under Stage I Fire Restrictions.
Chaffee County Stage II Fire Restrictions prohibit building, maintaining or attending any OPEN FIRE within Chaffee County. No open flame is permitted. Also included is the use of any type of charcoal fire or grill.
Due to the very dry conditions that prevail on our lands across the county it is imperative that all residents and visitors adhere to these restrictions. The Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office will be vigilant in enforcing these restrictions. If anyone observes any open fire they are encouraged to report such activity to the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office at 719-539-2596.
These restrictions will remain in place until conditions improve to the point that make less restrictive activities safe once again.
The Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office will be notifying all businesses that cater to our visitors to the area in regards to these restrictions. We will be utilizing our Everbridge system to notify all county residents. Reader boards provided by CDOT will be put in place relaying fire restriction information and our local media outlets will also be encouraged to keep our residents and visitors informed. The Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office web page and FaceBook page will carry current information.
For more information please contact Chaffee County Sheriff John Spezze at 719-207-3199.
