AS OF 6/13/18
Effective immediately, Stage 2 fire and smoking restrictions are in place on public lands managed by the U.S. Forest Service, Pike and San Isabel National Forests located Chaffee, Custer, Fremont, Huerfano, Las Animas, Pueblo and Saguache counties. Restrictions will remain in effect until they are rescinded.
The risk of human-caused fires is now very high to extreme and fire managers have decided to increase restrictions. Unless there is a significant change in the weather patterns, we will continue to experience a high potential for large, uncontrollable wildfires.
Visitors should be aware of hazardous conditions and be careful with the use of fire outdoors.
STAGE 2 FIRE RESTRICTIONS KEY POINTS
• Campfires, fire pits charcoal, tiki torches and candles are not allowed anywhere on national forest lands
• Smoking is only allowed in an enclosed vehicle, building or trailer
• The use of portable stoves, gas grills and any propane gas device are allowed on the entire Pike and San Isabel National Forests, Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands.
Visitors are responsible for checking with their local U.S. Forest Service office or go to: http://www.fs.usda.gov/psicc/ for fire information and to learn about specific restrictions. Visitors should also be aware of weather conditions and be careful with the use of fire outdoors.
