During the late-night hours of Friday, June 15th and the early morning hours of Saturday, June 16th several businesses in the Salida and Poncha Springs area along Hwy 50 were burglarized. These businesses include Salida Family Dentistry and The Firefly Restaurant in Salida and Poncha Lumber, Hunger Shack, Mountain Shadows Animal Hospital, Grimo’s Restaurant, Chaffee County Early Childhood Council and Faces in Chaffee County (Poncha Springs). The burglary at Faces was discovered by Chaffee County Deputies and had not yet been reported to law enforcement. Currency was stolen from most of the business after entry was forced. No other property was found to be missing.
A joint investigation between the Salida Police Department and the Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office has yielded an unknown lone male suspect who appears to be between the ages of 40 to 60, bald(ing), heavyset and approximately 6’01” tall.
The joint investigation has also shown that the same suspect may also be responsible for a string of burglaries over the last few weeks stretched across the states of Idaho, Utah, Kansas and Colorado. Local law enforcement is actively communicating with multiple agencies across these states sharing information on the suspect. In several burglaries in other states a black sedan is believed to be involved.
